What is IASTM?

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization is a physical therapy technique where specialized blunted tools are used on the skin, muscles, fascia, and underlying tissue to promote improved healing.

How does IASTM work?

When a tissue is injured, swelling and inflammation will infiltrate the area of injury to begin the healing process. As new, healthy tissue is laid down, it is laid down in an unorganized, mesh pattern resulting in weakened muscle contraction. IASTM helps to properly align muscle fibers in an organized pattern to promote improved healing and result in improved strength of muscular contractions.

Benefits of IASTM include:

  • Improved healing
  • Decreased pain
  • Improved muscle function
  • Improved range of motion
  • Improved collagen production
  • Improved circulation and lymphatic flow
